Oh Christ, if I could only have some happiness.
Happiness must exist. It can't all be made of pain. But what is happiness made of?
Happiness comes from without, bliss comes from within. Happiness is dependent on other people and outer causes, bliss is not dependent on outer causes.
But nothing delights the mind so much as fond and loyal friendship. What a blessing it is to have hearts that are ready and willing to receive all your secretes in safety, with whom you are less afraid to share knowledge of something than keep it to yourself, whose conversation soothes your distress, whose advice helps you make up your mind, whose cheerfulness dissolves your sorrow, whose very appearance cheers you up!
The Key to happiness happen whenever you start observation yourself without judging others.
Just like every serving of food has an effect on our body, every thought has an effect on our minds. Just like a single bite of harmful food can ruin the health of our body, a single negative thought can ruin the peace of our mind.
While failure is important for success, take only as much failures as you can afford to, without losing all your happiness. Failing more than what you can withstand is a recipe for suffering.
Once we understand that our happiness is the result of our life experiences with the world, we will also understand the importance of taking care of both our external and internal world. We can’t be happy if our children are unhappy, our spouse is unfaithful or if our boss hates us. It is futile to focus just on internal changes and hope to attain long-lasting happiness.
The habit of comparing leads to the habit of criticism, which soon leads to self-condemnation, and fills your life with pain and misery.
A happy person compares only with self. He tries to be a better person than what he had been yesterday. He tries to help everyone to become better than what they are rather than pulling them down to satisfy his own sense of misplaced superiority. He has no desire of making others miserable by berating them and destroying their happiness.
When you love your job, the quality of work improves effortlessly. You don’t get tired with your work but feel recharged. Your work itself becomes a great source of joy for you.
We can consider successes and failures in our life as credit and debit entries of our happiness account. Every time we succeed in achieving our goal, we get credit in the form of happiness and every time we fail, we debit our happiness account. If we have enough credits of happiness, we can easily withstand some failures just like the person who has a million dollar bank balance, does not get disconcerted if he loses out on a few thousand dollars. However, the same loss can bring much grief to a person who has a very small balance in his account.
There are people who are not happy and don’t have peace in their lives and they are in a mission to make sure that no one is happy and has peace in their lives. Stay away and ignore such people. Protect and fight for your happiness and peace.
Just like a sinner can’t know the joys of living an honorable life, a virtuous person can’t know the joys of a sinful life either
The key to happiness is to use the source of happiness in the right quantity, at the right time and in the right way. There is nothing wrong per se with love, family, wealth, pleasure, power or fame. They are all necessary for happiness and living a good life. However, they become a source of problem, when we use them wrongly or in excess or at the wrong time.
Wealth is one of the most important sources of happiness. It becomes a source of pain only when we earn or spend it inappropriately.
All virtues of a man rest upon his honesty and integrity; if you are not honest, you can’t sustain any other virtue. While honesty may not provide you any instant benefit, it prepares you for the challenges of life. If you are honest, your conscience is clear. And the road to everlasting happiness goes through a clear conscience.
The secret to happiness is freedom; the secret to is courage.' Thucydides said that. But the secret to courage is honor and the secret to honor is love. I said that.
