Together, we form a necessary paradox; not a senseless contradiction.
Your smile and your laughter lit my whole world.
There is no cosmetic to gain a beauty like yours.
I am sure that God has given all his time in making you, the remaining human race has been created in haste.
It's the smell of him in the bathroom, all I need to get ready for the day. Watching him get dressed, and the sound in the kitchen; a slow hum of a song and his movements, picking things to eat. The way I could observe him, for hours, just go on with his day β or as he sleeps β simply breathing in and out, in and out, and it's like the hymn that sings me to peace. I know the world is still out there and I know I'm not yet friendly to its pace, but as long as I know him with me, here, there, somewhere β us β I know I have a chance.
I wonder if you know how special you are; I wonder if you know how precious you are; I wonder if you know how lucky I am to have you in my life; I love you so much.
The Earth must have done some noble work; that is why you were born here and not in the ocean among the fishes and not in the sky among the birds.
I believe in love at first sightβ¦ But itβs not the first moment you lay eyes on a person, itβs the moment you first see the person they truly are.
I am not a finished poem, and I am not the song youβve turned me into. I am a detached human being, making my way in a world that is constantly trying to push me aside, and you who send me letters and emails and beautiful gifts wouldnβt even recognise me if you saw me walking down the street where I live tomorrow for I am not a poem. I am tired and worn out and the eyes you would see would not be painted or inspired but empty and weary from drinking too much at all times and I am not the life of your party who sings and has glorious words to speak for I donβt speak much at all and my voice is raspy and unsteady from unhealthy living and not much sleep and I only use it when I sing and I always sing too much or not at all and never when people are around because they expect poems and symphonies and I am not a poem but an elegy at my best but unedited and uncut and not a lot of people want to work with me because thereβs only so much you can do with an audio take, with the plug-ins and EQs and I was born distorted, disordered, and Iβm pretty fine with that, but others are not.
The aching in my chest isn't because I miss you, it's realizing that you have become someone I no longer know, your fears, your 4 am thoughts, your achievements, are things I no longer have an equivalent to. Who we were and who we are are four different people, and the me from now doesn't relate to the me from then, let alone to the you from now. -Tanzy Sayadi and Jarod Kintz
Songwriting and poetry are so commonly birthed from underdogs because one can make even the ugliest situations admirable, or more beautiful than the beautiful situations - they are the most graceful media in which the lines of society are distorted.
