John Ray Grisham Jr. is an American novelist popular for his legal thrillers. His books have been translated into 42 languages and published worldwide. John Grisham worked as an attorney at a small Southaven, Mississippi law practice before beginning a successful writing career. His first novel, A Time to Kill, was published in 1989 and has sold over 275 million copies worldwide. Many of his novels including The Firm, The Chamber, The Client, and A Painted House have been adapted into films and he remains one of only three authors to sell two million copies on a first printing, the other two being Tom Clancy and J. K. Rowling.
