Her writing often involves wealthy families in a crisis, threatened by elements such as incarceration, blackmail, deception, and suicide. She is the highest-selling author alive and the fourth bestselling fiction author of all time, with over 800 million copies sold. She has written 179 books, including over 146 novels. Since 1981, Ms.Steel’s works have been featured numerous times on the New York Times hardcover and paperback best-selling lists. She also holds a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for having at least one of her books on the Times bestseller list for 381 consecutive weeks. Twenty-one of her novels have been adapted for film. She is also the author of “Max and Martha” series of books for children and also writes poetry.
