Khaled Hosseini

Khaled Hosseini is an American novelist and physician. After graduating from college, he worked as a doctor in California for some time before writing his first novel. He has published three novels, all of them bestsellers: The Kiter Runner, And The Mountains Echoes, and A Thousand Splendid Suns. His debut novel, The Kite Runner, spent over 100 weeks on The New York Times Bestseller list. Predominant themes in his stories are those of loss, betrayal, human connections, and redemption and all of his stories are set at least partially in Afghanistan and feature an Afghan as the central character. Following the success of The Kite Runner he turned to writing full-time. Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, his family moved to France when he was 11 and four years later they applied for asylum in the United States, where he later became a citizen. He now resides in Northern California with his wife, Roya, and their two children, Harris and Farah.
